Use cases

Speed networking works wherever people want to meet the right people quickly. Here's what a good event looks like for seven kinds of groups, with a setup you can start from and change to suit your crowd.

Each bar shows the shape of the event, to scale: the welcome room and closing room in black, the rounds in pink, a sponsor round striped. The dashed line marks 75 minutes. An event up to that length uses 1 credit per guest who joins, counting the welcome room, the rounds, any sponsor round and the closing room. Matching questions are part of every event, so they aren't listed below.

Community and member groups

A good member event feels like a friendly room, not a sales pitch. Regulars meet newcomers, everyone leaves with a few names, and people come back next month.

Run it on a regular rhythm. Use the welcome room to set the tone, and a quick poll to give people something to talk about from the start.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
10 minutes
Rounds
6 one-to-one rounds of 6 minutes
Closing room
10 minutes
Length
56 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
A welcome-room poll such as "What brings you here today?", "Ask me about" and the classic prompt deck

Accelerators and incubators

Founders get focused time with the mentors, investors or peers who can help them most. Every chat has a clear reason to happen.

Use two-sided rounds so founders meet the other side, not each other. If there are more founders than mentors, founders take turns waiting in the lounge, so the waiting is shared fairly.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
5 minutes
Rounds
5 two-sided rounds of 8 minutes
Closing room
5 minutes
Length
50 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
Two-sided rounds with founders and mentors (or investors), "Ask me about" so founders can name their biggest question, and one-tap rating

Chambers and business associations

Members meet other members they could do business with. Matching on what people are looking for, whether that's clients, partners, advice or peers, makes every round count.

Keep rounds short so people meet as many members as they can, then let mutual matches tell them who to call next week.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
10 minutes
Rounds
7 one-to-one rounds of 5 minutes
Closing room
10 minutes
Length
55 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
Registration so you know who's coming, and your logo and colour (Starter or Pro)

Conferences and summits

A networking session that fits inside a busy program: short, on time and easy to join from one link. People leave knowing who to look for later.

Use topic tables that match your tracks or themes, give a sponsor a moment in front of everyone, and keep your partners' logos on screen from the lobby to the end screen.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
5 minutes
Sponsor spotlight
3 minutes before the rounds (Pro)
Rounds
5 rounds of 6 minutes, the last one as topic tables
Closing room
5 minutes
Length
43 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
Topic tables with one table per track, the sponsor spotlight round, your partners' logos (Pro) and registration

Universities and alumni networks

Students and alumni meet across years and fields. At a career night, graduates share how they got where they are, and students ask the questions they can't ask in class.

Two-sided rounds keep every chat between a student and a graduate. Everyone who joins must be 18 or older.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
10 minutes
Rounds
5 two-sided rounds of 7 minutes
Closing room
10 minutes
Length
55 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
Two-sided rounds with alumni and students, and "Ask me about" so graduates can say what they're happy to help with

Teams inside companies

Colleagues who don't usually work together get to know each other: new hires, remote teams or people from different departments. It should feel light, not like another meeting.

Small tables take the pressure off, and games give everyone an easy way in.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
5 minutes
Rounds
4 rounds of 8 minutes as shuffle tables of 4
Closing room
5 minutes
Length
42 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
Shuffle tables, the two truths and a lie deck, networking bingo with squares about your team, and a welcome-room poll

Mentoring programs

Before you pair people for a whole program, let mentors and mentees meet several possible matches. Longer rounds leave room for real questions.

Mutual matches show who'd like to keep talking, and your attendee list shows who met whom and every Connect tap, to help you make the final pairs.

Suggested setup

Welcome room
10 minutes
Rounds
6 two-sided rounds of 8 minutes
Closing room
10 minutes
Length
68 minutes, so 1 credit per guest
Turn on
Two-sided rounds with mentors and mentees, one-tap rating and the deep prompt deck

Want 8 rounds of 8 minutes? That makes 84 minutes, so each guest uses 2 credits instead of 1.
