Frequently asked questions
Everything people usually ask about joining an event, running one, paying for it and keeping information safe.
For guests
Do I need to download anything?
No. SpeedHuddle runs in the web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Open the link the organizer sent you, allow your camera and mic, and you're in.
What do I need to join?
A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and a microphone, an up-to-date web browser and a steady internet connection. Headphones help if you're somewhere busy.
Do I need an account?
No. You join with the organizer's link and add your name, job title and company. Some events ask you to register first or buy a ticket, and then you get a personal join link by email.
Can other people see my camera before the event starts?
No. In the lobby, your camera and mic preview is private: only you can see it. Other guests see your name, job title and company in the list of who's here.
How do the rounds work?
The event moves on a timer. After a welcome room with everyone together, you meet one new person each round. You'll see who you're with, a question to get started and a Connect button. A warning shows one minute before each switch, then everyone moves on together.
What does Connect do?
Tap Connect during a chat if you'd like to stay in touch. If the other person taps Connect too, it's a mutual match. At the end of the event you'll see your mutual matches first, then everyone you met, and you can copy or download the list.
Will my partner see my LinkedIn?
If you add your LinkedIn link, the people you're paired with can see it. Other guests see only your name, job title and company.
Can I take a break?
If the organizer turns on "Skip a round", you can sit out the next round and wait in the lounge instead of leaving.
What if my connection drops?
Open the same link again to come back in.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to join an event.
For organizers
How do I run an event?
Create it in six short steps: the basics, the timing, who can join, any extras, the look and partners, and a final review. Then share the guest link. On the day, open your host room and press start. The welcome room, the rounds and the closing room all run on a timer. See how it works.
Do I have to move people between rooms?
No. SpeedHuddle pairs people and moves everyone on its own. You can still step in: start the next stage now, add a minute, message everyone, visit any room or end the event.
What happens with an odd number of people?
One room gets three people for that round, so nobody waits alone. Or you can join the extra guest yourself.
Can guests meet the same person twice?
SpeedHuddle avoids repeat partners wherever it can. In a small group with many rounds, a repeat may be the only option left.
Can I run group rounds instead of pairs?
Yes. Shuffle tables put people in small tables of 3 to 6, and topic tables let guests pick a table by topic. You can also run two-sided rounds, such as mentors and mentees.
What extras can I add to an event?
Shuffle tables, topic tables, two-sided rounds, welcome-room polls, conversation prompts, networking bingo, "Ask me about", skip a round, one-tap rating and a recap card. They all work on every plan. The sponsor spotlight round is part of Pro. When you set up an event, each extra comes with an example, so you know what it does before you add it.
How do I help the right people meet?
When guests join, they can answer a few optional matching questions: their role, industry, experience and what they're looking for. SpeedHuddle uses the answers when it pairs people, and never shows them to other guests. You can also add welcome-room polls that pair similar or different answers, or run two-sided rounds.
Can I put my brand on the event?
Yes. Pay per event, Starter and Pro show your logo. Starter and Pro add your colour and welcome text. Pro removes the "Powered by SpeedHuddle" line and lets you show your partners' logos.
Can I show my sponsors and partners?
Yes, on Pro. Add up to 12 partners once, with their name, logo, role and website, then pick up to 8 to show at each event. Guests see them in the lobby, under the video and on the end screen. Pro also adds a sponsor spotlight round: a short stage before or after the rounds with your sponsor's name, logo, link and a few words.
Can I sell tickets?
Yes, on any plan. Connect your own Stripe account and set a ticket price. Ticket money goes to your account. SpeedHuddle keeps 2% of each sale, or nothing on Pro, and Stripe's fees also apply. You're the seller, so you handle refunds for your guests.
What do I get after the event?
Your results and an attendee list you can download, with who met whom, every Connect tap and every mutual match. If you turn it on, you also get a recap image in your branding to share.
Can I try it before I set up an event?
Yes. Run the sample event in your browser. It's fast-forwarded, with made-up guests.
Pricing and billing
How much does SpeedHuddle cost?
Free is C$0 for 1 event a month with up to 10 people. Pay per event is C$2 per attendee with a C$39 minimum per event. Starter is C$79 a month or C$790 a year, and Pro is C$199 a month or C$1,990 a year. Prices are in Canadian dollars, plus GST or HST. Organizations outside Canada pay in US dollars. Compare plans.
How do credits work?
One credit covers one guest at an event up to 75 minutes long, and longer events use 2 credits per guest. A credit is used only when someone joins, so no-shows don't use your credits.
Do unused credits roll over?
Monthly credits don't roll over. Extra credits, at C$1 each in packs of 25, don't expire while your account is open.
How does pay per event work?
Buy a pass for the number of people you expect, at C$2 each with a C$39 minimum. Add spots before the event starts if more people sign up. Passes aren't refunded, except where the law requires it, but you can move your event to a new date before it starts.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time, from your account settings or by email. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, then your account moves to the Free plan. See Refunds and cancellation.
Which currency do I pay in?
Canadian dollars if your organization is based in Canada, and US dollars everywhere else. It follows the country in your account.
Do you add sales tax?
We add GST or HST for organizations in Canada, based on the province. Organizations outside Canada pay no GST or HST.
What if a payment fails?
We'll tell you by email. If it isn't fixed within 14 days, your account moves to the Free plan.
Privacy
Are the video chats recorded?
No. SpeedHuddle doesn't record video or audio. Video and audio are streamed live between the people in a room.
Who can see my matching answers?
Never other guests. The organizer of the event can see them, along with the rest of the event's attendee information.
Is my payment information safe?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
Do you sell personal information?
No. We use it to run SpeedHuddle and the events on it, reply to messages, handle billing and keep the platform safe.
Where is my information stored?
We use outside providers for hosting, live video, email delivery and payments. Some of them store information outside Canada, for example in the United States.
How do I get a copy of my information?
Email hello@speedhuddle.com with "Privacy" in the subject line. You can ask what we hold and get a copy, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent. Read our Privacy Policy and our security and privacy overview.
